Two features missing from the spec of Plusdeck is
-
1.The ability to change it's EQ settings for 'Normal',
or High Bias/Chrome cassettes (at least I can't see it mentioned
in the spec or review), and ...
2. Dolby noise reduction. I wonder if Dolby was omitted
to save the manufacturer licensing costs as Dolby noise reduction
is owned by Dolby Labs. It would have been nice to have this feature
but it's not a huge loss. The result of playing back a Dolby encoded
tape on a non Dolby player is that the high frequencies ie; treble,
tends to be enhanced which will also unfortunately have the effect
of increasing tape hiss. This of course can be compensated for by
using EQ compensation or audio restoration software in your audio
editor. In fact when I was repairing cassette decks, some customers
used to prefer the sound with the Dolby switched off as it produced
a brighter sound.
An excellent review of Plusdeck has been carried out
by devhardware.com and can been seen here.
It covers operation and installation in detail so if you're interested
in this product then pop on over and take a look.
