This Audio Technica is good value for money....

The Audio Technica AT-LP2D LP-to-Digital Recording System is a complete system I seemed to have missed and I don't know why. This deck has it's own built in phono preamp and comes with Pyro audio restoration software made by trusty Cakewalk which is a good start, including a DeClicker for reducing clicks, pops, and crackles. A DeNoiser for reducing tape hiss and hum, all helping to make restoration and transfer of your LP's nice and easy. You won't be able to play 78 rpm records unless you use additional software (something like Audacity - which is free to download) to adjust the speed after recording, but 33 rpm and 45rpm are catered for, so that's not a problem. Don't forget, as always you will need a reasonable amount of spare hard disk space to be able to save those large audio files. However once transferred to your PC you'll probably want to burn your audio to CD so you can delete the files on your hard drive.

Connecting the AT-LP2D to your PC (or your hi-fi 'Line In' for that matter) is a breeze as there are two types of outputs. The 'Preamp On' mode will give you enough signal level (200mV) to plug directly into the 'Line In' of your PC Sound Card. All the necessary frequency compensation (RIAA) is already done for you by the decks internal circuitry so as far as this is concerned, it's plug and play.

The other output which is the 'pre-amp off' mode is a standard output to connect to a normal phono/turntable input on your hifi or amplifier, or indeed a phono preamp if you have one. If you do have a good quality phono preamp then this is probably the way to go.

The only down side to this deck is that it's a bit light weight. Having said that, it uses an aluminum turntable which is light, but at least it runs flat/true. I've seen many decks using plastic turntable platters which aren't very flat with practically no weight at all causing poor wow and flutter and trackablilty.

On the 'up' side, there have been many comments from customers having been pleasantly surprised with the sound quality for the price, plus it's fitted with an Audio Technica cartridge/stylus and as they don't really make poor quality kit you're off to a good start there.

All in all I reckon this is a very good package.

What's in the Box: AT-PL50 turntable, aluminum platter, audiophile-quality stereo cartridge, Cakewalk Pyro software, record care kit (with record care solution, brush pad, storage base, and double-sided adhesive tape), PC adapter cable, user's manual

At the moment Amazon have this product on a "click here to see price" indicating that the price of the item is so low that the manufacturer requested that it not be advertised. Check it out now!
